Do It Yourself: Beer Label Christmas Ornaments
It’s the week of Christmas and, whether it’s because of holiday parties, general celebrations, or just because, you’ve been throwing back a few more beers than is typical. I’ve found a way to put all that good drinking to use…and it’s something you can do even after throwing back a full bottle of something higher than 15% ABV. Allow me to introduce: beer label Christmas ornaments! I shamelessly stole this idea after seeing Tierney of … Read entire article »

Tröegs Scratch #83 – ¿Impending Descent? Ale
Tröegs has been experimenting with their Scratch Series for a few years now. Personally, I’ve been following them closely and have tasted nearly every one from #46 and above. Some can be a gamble, but that’s part of the fun when trying these small test batches. Occasionally, the Trogner brothers come out with something extraordinary. The first this happened for me was about a year ago when I first tasted Scratch #55 – Double IPA. Now, … Read entire article »

Tröegs Brewery Tasting Tour
Most breweries offer tours of their facility – but some truly go above and beyond. On Friday, October 26, The Beer Circle writers Kenton Martin and Garrett Miller, accompanied by friends and guest writers Alyssa Cook, Brian Reitz, and Kelsey Bailey, took a tour of Tröegs’ still-new Hershey, PA location – which represents a considerable amount of brewing capacity. The Beer Circle has stopped by here on a previous beer tour (and even got to … Read entire article »

Beer Giveaway!
Update: We have a winner! Hoss Hewitt is victorious and has received his beer. We’ll leave the contest questions below if you want to fill it out anyway! Russ has a problem and our readers are about to benefit. To put it simply, he has too much beer. As a Bruery Reserve Society co-member with Bob, Russ came about three bottles of Sans Pagaie (an American Wild Ale aged on oak with cherries)…and loved it. After two … Read entire article »

AB InBev: Moving Forward Without The Past
While Hurricane Sandy does its worst to the Eastern US seaboard, I decided to have a coffee and read the internet (yes, the whole internet…who knows how long I’ll have power for, so I wanted to make sure I got it all). I came across a few articles detailing how Anheuser-Busch (AB) InBev came about. As a beer lover, albeit someone who was not old enough to comprehend the rise of such a monster company, … Read entire article »

Unlikely Pairings: Music
You’ve probably seen plenty of recommended pairings with food when you read a beer description, but do we have to stop there? In this post, I begin a new column called “Unlikely Pairings.” This goes beyond the conventional food/beer pairing and inspects the less common couplings with you brew. Music almost always is around you when enjoying a drink; whether you’re in the bar, at a party, maybe even as background noise while you write tasting … Read entire article »

Great American Beer Festival 2012
For the third consecutive year, I was fortunate enough to attend the Great American Beer Festival. I attended the Saturday evening session this year, and the medals had already been passed out by the time I got to the Convention Center. The highlight of my day was wearing a Tröegs shirt after they cleaned up with three gold medals (Dreamweaver Wheat, HopBack Amber Ale, and Sunshine Pilsner) and the 2012 Mid-Size Brewery of the Year. … Read entire article »
